Ministry of Public Health Holds Second-Phase Meeting to Review National Malaria Program
The meeting was led by the Deputy Minister for Health Services of the Ministry of Public Health, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, and attended by several ministry directors, the Head of WHO, and representatives from UNDP and implementing partners.
His Excellency Haqqani stated, ‘These review meetings provide a valuable opportunity to directly assess the operational capacity of health facilities, the malaria diagnosis and treatment process, monitoring and reporting systems, the implementation of preventive interventions, the status of logistical support, and the level of community participation.
The deputy minister further stated that the long-term objective is not merely to reduce malaria cases, but to ensure its sustainable control and gradual elimination through joint efforts, mutual trust, and sustained support.
Furthermore, at the meeting, WHO Representative in Afghanistan Dr. Edwin Ceniza Salvador and Geneva headquarters head Dr. Andrea Bosman presented updates on malaria control, shared insights on ongoing activities and achievements in Afghanistan, and pledged sustained cooperation in the control of malaria and other vector-borne diseases.
