MoPH Launches First-Ever One-Year Specialized Ultrasound Training Program in Afghanistan
The Ministry of Public Health has officially launched a one-year specialized ultrasound training program for the first time at the Central Radiology Center.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for Health Services, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani; the Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration Affairs, Qari Abdul Wali Siddiqi; the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Public Health, Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Halim; as well as several central directors, department heads, and health workers.
Speaking at the opening, the Deputy Minister for Health Services said: “This program is not just a typical training course; it is an important and impactful step toward improving the quality of healthcare services, strengthening accurate diagnosis, and saving patients’ lives.” He added that ultrasound is one of the fundamental and highly valuable diagnostic tools in modern medicine, and therefore acquiring and strengthening this skill is of vital importance, as it can bring fundamental improvements to healthcare delivery.
The Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration Affairs also highlighted the importance of the program, describing it as a significant initiative for strengthening the health sector. He urged participants to strictly avoid absences and attend all classes regularly in order to make the best use of this valuable opportunity.
Similarly, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry described the provision of healthcare services as both a religious and humanitarian responsibility, adding that the implementation of such academic programs would help improve access to healthcare services and contribute to resolving people’s problems in a sustainable way.
In addition, the Director General of Curative Medicine, Dr. Wahdat Alokozay; the Director General of Postgraduate Medical Education, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Niazi; the Director of Diagnostic Services, Dr. Mohammad Qasim Sahibi; and the Head of the National Radiology Institute, Dr. Awal Khan Shafaq, also delivered comprehensive speeches on the importance of the training program. They called on the instructors to pay serious attention to standardized curricula, practical training, and professional principles so that the trained doctors can provide high-quality and effective services in their respective regions.
It is worth noting that in the first phase of this program, 50 doctors from underserved provinces will receive one-year specialized training in ultrasound, and the program is expected to be expanded further in the future.
