The Ministry of Public Health held an awareness session on patient safety and improving patient care

The session was attended by Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services, several central directors, officials from central hospitals, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), and media representatives. The Deputy Minister said that patient safety is a fundamental component of quality healthcare. He emphasized that timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and a safe and standardized healthcare environment are essential to ensuring patient safety.

He further stated that patient safety is not solely the responsibility of healthcare workers but a shared responsibility of relevant national and international institutions and organizations, healthcare professionals, communities, families, and patients. He added that a well-organized and effective health system, committed healthcare professionals, and informed patients are the three key elements of patient safety.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wahdat Alokozai, Director General of Curative Medicine of the MoPH, said that accurate diagnosis, preventing potential harm during treatment, and administering medicines in accordance with the prescribed dosage are essential for ensuring patient safety and providing quality care.

 

Dr. Mohammad Sami Karimi, Head of Noncommunicable Disease Prevention and Control of the MoPH, and a representative of the World Health Organization also delivered remarks on the prevention of noncommunicable diseases and patient safety.
