MoPH Minister Chairs First Meeting of National Cancer Control Program Board

Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, attended the inaugural meeting of the National Cancer Control Program’s Leadership and Management Board at his office.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Mohammad Taher Halim, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Public Health; Dr. Aminullah Momand, Director of Specialized and Tertiary Hospitals; officials of the National Cancer Control Program; ministry advisors; and board members. Discussions focused on improving the organization, coordination, and development of the program.

The Minister of Public Health emphasized the importance of the National Cancer Control Program’s Leadership and Management Board, describing cancer as a serious global health challenge and calling for organized and effective measures for its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

His Excellency Jalali also stressed the need to expand cancer-related health services, ensure better management of international support, and strengthen services at the National Hospital for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment in Kabul to better meet patients’ needs. According to the minister, efforts will be made in the future to extend cancer services beyond the capital to the provinces.

The minister urged board members to provide their professional guidance and recommendations to ensure the set goals of the National Cancer Control Program are achieved, enhancing the program’s effectiveness and delivering better health services to the public.

The meeting also outlined the board’s responsibilities and presented a prepared document detailing plans for expanding cancer diagnosis and treatment services, providing necessary equipment, building staff capacity, and financing these activities.

Notably, the National Cancer Control Program’s Leadership and Management Board aims to strengthen cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services and provide high-quality healthcare to the public, with efforts in this area set to increase.
