The Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority (AFDA), under the Ministry of Public Health, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), held a three-day training program for representatives of national and international organizations to familiarize them with the drug import process.

The training program aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity in the legal procedures for importing medicines and enhance their understanding of the applicable regulations and requirements governing the sector. Participants were introduced to the functions and regulatory authorities of the AFDA, the drug registration and approval process, registration of domestically manufactured products, procedures for obtaining import licenses, requirements for controlled substances, sampling and quality control procedures, customs clearance, the national list of authorized medicines, as well as the challenges facing the drug import process and ways to address them.

They emphasized that holding similar training programs plays an important role in ensuring transparency, streamlining services, improving the quality of import procedures, and helping ensure that people have access to safe, effective, and quality-assured medicines.
