A meeting, for the first time, was convened at the Deputy Minister's Office for Food and Drugs of the Ministry of Public Health to develop and finalise a curriculum for traditional medicine

The ceremony, held for this purpose, was attended by the Minister of Public Health, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali; the Deputy Minister for Food and Drugs, Mawlawi Hamdullah Zahid; senior directors of the ministry; a large number of traditional practitioners; and several other officials.

The Minister of Public Health, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, expressed satisfaction over the development of a standardised curriculum for traditional medicine, urging stakeholders to make effective use of it.

He stated: “Many neighbouring countries have established traditional medicine systems, while in Afghanistan it has remained relatively weak. My hope was to standardise this field. Therefore, I extend my gratitude to those who, in a short period, drew on numerous sources to produce a standard curriculum for traditional medicine, which will undoubtedly strengthen this sector.”

The Deputy Minister for Food and Drugs, Mawlawi Hamdullah Zahid, described traditional medicine as an important part of Afghanistan’s scientific and cultural heritage, calling the development of this curriculum a valuable and strategic step.

He added that the curriculum will first be incorporated into institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Public Health and will later be presented to traditional practitioners across the country through a series of workshops.

H.E. Zahid further assured participants that the ministry would, through the effective utilisation of existing capacities, create additional facilities to support the standardisation of traditional medicine, enabling the public to benefit from it in a safe and appropriate manner.
