National Codex Committee Meets to Strengthen Food Safety Coordination and Standards

Dr. Naeemullah Ayoubi, Director General of Food Safety of the Ministry of Public Health, chaired a meeting of the National Codex Committee to enhance coordination and ensure the implementation of the decisions of the National Food and Drug Board.

The meeting brought together food safety specialists from the Food and Drug Authority, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, and other relevant officials. Participants highlighted the key role of the National Codex Committee in ensuring food safety, reducing risks from unsafe food products, and improving national food standards. They also stressed the need to implement the decisions and recommendations of the relevant authorities.

In addition, participants discussed the need to standardize and strengthen the National Codex Committee, improve coordination among relevant institutions, engage key stakeholders, and further enhance the committee’s role in strengthening the country’s food safety system.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority, in cooperation with members of the National Codex Committee, would develop a comprehensive set of procedures for the committee’s activities and submit them to the relevant authorities for completion of the legal process. This is aimed at improving the organization of work and strengthening coordination among institutions.
