The Deputy Minister for Health Service Delivery of the Ministry of Public Health under the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, convened a follow-up session with national and international stakeholders on the strategic measures to prevent the spread of monkeypox.

In attendance were representatives from key health agencies, including UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration, alongside senior officials from the Ministry. Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani reviewed comprehensive reports presented by designated task forces regarding ongoing preventive and containment efforts for monkeypox. He issued critical directives aimed at expediting operations, implementing robust preventive protocols, and enhancing logistical support to ensure effective disease management.

He emphasized, “Although Afghanistan has not yet documented any confirmed cases of this viral disease, it is imperative that we establish a state of readiness to safeguard our citizens from monkeypox and other communicable diseases.”
