Sports-Based Rehabilitation Initiative Launched to Prevent Relapse and Support Recovery in Afghanistan

The 450-bed Drug Rehabilitation Hospital of the Ministry of Public Health, in coordination with the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan, held a ceremony aimed at combating narcotics, preventing relapse among treated patients, and improving their physical condition.

The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Halim, Chief of Staff of the MoPH; officials from the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan; officials from the National Program for Drug Treatment; Dr. Abdul Qadir Danishmal, Head of the 450-bed hospital; healthcare workers, athletes, and media representatives.

The Chief of Staff highlighted the importance of such events in preventing addiction, raising public awareness, and supporting treated patients to lead healthy lives. He noted that regular sports activities strengthen recovery and promote both physical and mental well-being.

Dr. Abdul Qadir Danishmal, emphasized the need for continued support alongside treatment, stating that educational and sports activities can help prevent relapse and reintegrate recovered individuals into normal life.

Similarly, representatives of the National Drug Treatment Program and the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan emphasized strengthening joint efforts in addiction prevention and described sports as an effective step toward building a healthy society.

 

In conclusion, in coordination with the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan, volleyball matches were held among recovered patients from six rehabilitation centers, promoting enthusiasm, cooperation, and positive competition. Officials also stressed the importance of continuing such initiatives.
