MoPH Holds National Hepatitis Awareness Event to Promote Prevention and Integrated Care

The Ministry of Public Health of the IEA held a public awareness and advocacy meeting to combat hepatitis under the theme, “Integrating Hepatitis Prevention Services and Care into the Health System.”

The meeting was attended by Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, Deputy Minister for Health Services of the Ministry of Public Health, several senior officials from the Ministry, and representatives of international organizations and the media.

The Deputy Minister for Health Services said that hepatitis can be prevented through early diagnosis, vaccination, standardized treatment, and public awareness. He added that the Ministry of Public Health has expanded hepatitis prevention and treatment services in several provinces and expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of international organizations, government institutions, and the media in preventing, diagnosing, and treating communicable diseases.

Dr. Haidar khan Haidar, Director General of Preventive Medicine, and Dr. Abdul Rahman Shirendal, Head of the National AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Hepatitis Control Programme, said that disease prevention and the implementation of preventive measures are among the MoPH’s key priorities. They added that hepatitis diagnosis, prevention, and treatment services have been expanded from 12 to 23 provinces, and that efforts are underway, in cooperation with national and international partner organizations, to further expand these services and improve access to healthcare across the country.
