Minister of Public Health Meets WHO Geneva Delegation to Strengthen Polio Diagnostic Laboratory

Kabul, Afghanistan – The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, met with a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) visiting from Geneva at his official office in Kabul.

During the meeting, both sides discussed follow-up actions on previous engagements with WHO officials, with a particular focus on strengthening the Polio Diagnostic Laboratory in Kabul. Discussions covered the upgrading of laboratory facilities, further capacity-building for staff, and measures to enhance the laboratory’s operational efficiency.

Minister Jalali described the fight against polio and other communicable diseases as a key priority of the Ministry of Public Health. He stressed that the ministry is working to eradicate polio through preventive measures and noted that a well-equipped laboratory is vital for the timely and accurate detection of the disease.

The WHO delegation from Geneva, which included officials from the Eastern Mediterranean Region, shared their views on the development of the polio laboratory and expressed their commitment to taking the necessary steps to support related initiatives.
