Over a period of eight weeks, the Environmental Health Directorate of the Ministry of Public Health successfully collected and disposed of 25 tons of expired and substandard food products from various parts of Kabul, culminating in their destruction in the Gazak area.

Speaking at an event held to mark this achievement, Dr. Zabihullah Haris, Director of Primary Health Services at the Ministry of Public Health, emphasized the pivotal role of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and specifically the Ministry of Public Health, in safeguarding public health. He stated, “It is the duty of our ministry to ensure the well-being of the population and to facilitate the provision of essential healthcare services. In line with this, the Environmental Health Directorate’s control team has efficiently gathered and eradicated 25 tons of expired and substandard food items over the course of six to eight weeks.”

Dr. Haris further highlighted that inspection teams from the Environmental Health Directorate had successfully conducted surveillance and inspections across 90 to 95 percent of Kabul's districts. This initiative, aimed at improving food safety standards and protecting public health, will continue both in Kabul and across the provinces in the future.

Notably, the collected items included a variety of expired and low-quality products such as biscuits, cooking oils, canned goods, cakes, pickles, non-alcoholic beverages, and other foodstuffs, all of which were safely transported to a designated area for destruction.
