The Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan convened a high-level symposium to intensify tuberculosis (TB) eradication efforts and heighten public awareness regarding its prevention and treatment.

The event was attended by the Minister of Public Health, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali; the Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration, Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat; and the Deputy Minister for Healthcare Services Delivery, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani; alongside senior officials; representatives of national and international health organizations, and distinguished healthcare professionals.

In his address, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani underscored TB’s pervasive threat, identifying it as one of the world’s ten deadliest communicable diseases. He emphasized the imperative need for decisive action, calling for sustained investment, policy reinforcement, and expanded healthcare infrastructure to combat its prevalence.

He affirmed, “Through resolute commitment, strategic resource allocation, and the systematic enhancement of healthcare services, we can decisively eliminate tuberculosis, ensuring equitable access to treatment for all affected individuals. This, in turn, will enable us to eradicate the disease from our society entirely.”

Moreover, the Deputy Minister disclosed that the Ministry had successfully diagnosed and treated 51,319 TB cases over the past year, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to disease containment and public health advancement.

It is noteworthy that several senior officials from the Ministry of Public Health delivered comprehensive briefings, outlining the scope, efficacy, and strategic direction of TB-related healthcare interventions while detailing patient treatment outcomes and future policy imperatives.
