Minister of Public Health meets with he General Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of WHO

His Excellency Dr. Qalandar Ebad, the Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, convened a gathering with Ms. Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhi, the General Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization for Afghanistan, along with their respective delegations.

During this gathering, which included the participation of Mr. Tajuddin Awaila, the director of UNICEF for Afghanistan, as well as representatives from the World Health Organization, substantial discussions were conducted regarding various matters. These discussions encompassed the eradication of polio in Afghanistan, the notable accomplishments of the Ministry of Public Health over the preceding two years, efforts to enhance the capacity of Afghan health personnel, the establishment of district-level hospitals, the reinforcement of the health system, the imperative of sustained cooperation, the management of infectious diseases, and the improvement of coordination mechanisms.

His Excellency Dr. Qalandar Ebad, the Minister of Public Health, expressed that since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, notable transformations have taken place within the nation's healthcare domain, particularly in the domains of primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services. Moreover, there has been a noteworthy decline in the prevalence of polio in recent times, and ongoing endeavors persist in this realm. The ultimate objective remains the complete eradication of this devastating disease from Afghanistan.

The Minister of Public Health further emphasized that Afghanistan has successfully established its inaugural polio diagnostic laboratory, which enables swift and precise diagnoses of the polio disease.

Additionally, he underscored the indispensability of collaboration with the World Health Organization and UNICEF in the healthcare sector. He urged them to expand the capabilities of Afghan healthcare personnel, deliver healthcare services to inhabitants residing in remote regions, effectively manage infectious diseases, sustain their cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health to fortify the healthcare system, and work steadfastly towards the eradication of polio.

In contrast, delegates from the World Health Organization and UNICEF emphasized their unwavering commitment to ongoing collaboration and pledged their complete support in these domains.
