Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health Holds Universal Health Coverage Meeting Under “Healthy Generation, Healthy Future, Healthy Economy” Slogan
A meeting on Universal Health Coverage, held under the slogan “Healthy Generation, Healthy Future, Healthy Economy,” was organised by the Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The meeting was attended by Dr Mohammad Hassan Ghiasy, Deputy Minister for Health Policy and Promotion; Sheikh Mohammad Taher Halim, Chief of Staff of the MoPH; Dr Syed Rasool Mangal, Director General of Planning and Policy; several central directors of the ministry; representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the media.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ghiasy said the Ministry of Public Health provides health services to ensure health equity, strengthen the health sector, and support vulnerable groups. He noted that more than 400 health centres have been built across the country over the past four years, adding that the ministry will continue efforts to protect public health and improve services.
Sheikh Mohammad Taher Halim stressed the importance and purpose of the slogan “Healthy Generation, Healthy Future, Healthy Economy,” saying its achievement requires collective effort. He added that Afghans need cooperation and support in the health sector more than any other nation.
Dr Syed Rasool Mangal said that clear solutions and measures to expand health services have been included in the ministry’s policies and strategies, and that these measures are currently being implemented seriously.
Meanwhile, Dr Mirwais Ahmadzai, Director of Health Economics and Financing of the ministry, said that since the Islamic Emirate came to power, health services have expanded, the budget has increased annually, and the leadership remains committed to improving and developing health services.
The meeting concluded with representatives of WHO and UNICEF speaking about the health situation and reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation and support for the Ministry of Public Health.
