New Medical Facilities Inaugurated at Indira Gandhi Hospital to Boost Pediatric Critical Care, with EU and WHO Support

Kabul – The Ministry of Public Health has inaugurated a state-of-the-art oxygen production plant, high-capacity generator, and specialized bronchoscopy unit at Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital, significantly enhancing critical care and diagnostic services.

The ceremony was attended by Public Health Minister H.E. Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali; Dr. Edwin Ceniza Salvador of the World Health Organization; European Union delegates; senior ministry officials; the hospital director; healthcare staff; and media representatives.

The Minister thanked the WHO and the EU for their support and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing standardized healthcare across national and specialized hospitals.

He also stressed the importance of transparent and efficient resource management to strengthen the health sector and promote institutional self-reliance.

Dr. Aminullah Momand, Director of Specialized Hospitals, instructed staff to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment to prevent malfunction and extend service life.

Dr. Wahdat Alokozai, Director of Curative Medicine, stated that the new equipment will improve pediatric care and announced upcoming plans to establish a dedicated oncology unit at the hospital.

The new facilities, equipped with modern medical technologies, were funded by the EU at a cost of approximately USD 1.65 million (around 76 million Afghanis) and are now operational.
