The Directorate General of Monitoring and Inspection of the Ministry of Public Health held a three-day workshop on prioritizing communicable diseases for surveillance.

The workshop was conducted with the financial and technical support of the World Health Organization (WHO). The opening session was attended by Mufti Abdul Qudus Hashimi, Director General of Monitoring and Inspection, relevant officials, representatives of various directorates, and WHO technical experts.

During the workshop, the current list of diseases under surveillance was reviewed based on available evidence, the public health impact of each disease, the risk of transmission, the feasibility of prevention and control measures, and surveillance needs. The review aimed to establish clear, practical, and evidence-based priorities for disease surveillance in Afghanistan.

The process aims to strengthen Afghanistan’s disease surveillance system by making it more effective, targeted, and aligned with the country’s health needs, available resources, and existing capacities. This will help improve disease detection and surveillance and enable a more timely and effective response to public health threats.
