Ministry of Public Health Commemorates World Health Day Under the Theme: "Care for Mothers and Newborns is an Investment in the Future"

Kabul — The Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan officially commemorated World Health Day under the theme “Care for Mothers and Newborns is an Investment in the Future.”

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for Health Services Provision, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani; the Chief of Staff of the Ministry, Sheikh Mohammad Taher Haleem; delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and UNFPA; as well as central directors from the Ministry.

In his remarks, Haqqani highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand healthcare services to remote areas, ensure the equitable distribution of services, and enhance the quality of care through modern technologies. He also spoke about increasing access to healthcare via newly established health centers, regulating pharmaceutical prices, and strengthening the overall public health system.

He further stated, “The standardization of the healthcare delivery system, the assessment of sectoral needs, the provision of services for returning citizens, and the prioritization of maternal and child health are among the key initiatives pursued by the Ministry’s leadership. These efforts remain a top priority and will continue.”

Addressing the audience, Sheikh Mohammad Taher Haleem delivered a speech on the value of health from an Islamic perspective. He encouraged all individuals to take responsibility for their personal health and that of their families.

Moreover, Dr. Wahdat Alokozay, Director of Curative Medicine, along with representatives from WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA, delivered comprehensive speeches highlighting the significance of World Health Day and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting health-related initiatives in Afghanistan.
