						 <description><![CDATA[The 21th anniversary of the World AIDS Day is being celebrated in a situation that the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has recorded 556 HIV positive cases of which 8 patients died because of this disease.NACP reported 2000 to 3000 positive all over the country along with 19000 Injecting Drug Users (IDUs).This program wants to decrease the above number to 0.5 percent by 2010.]]></description>

The causes of mental health problems in Afghanistan are due to extreme poverty, insecurity, political instability, appalling infrastructure and large gender disparities. In recent decades Afghanistan has faced a series of long term disasters deeply affected the coping mechanisms of the population and the capacity of the health care system to respond to the mental health needs. ]]></description>

						 <title>Care for eye and prevention of blindness is Public Health priorities in Afghanistan</title>

						 <description><![CDATA[Eye diseases and blindness are common and a public health problem in Afghanistan. An estimate of 400 000 people are blind (around 1.5 - 2% of the population in Afghanistan), more than 90% of blindness is avoidable (preventable & curable), main causes of blindness in Afghanistan which are counted the main eye problems as well, are reported to be cataract, corneal opacity (due to trachoma and vitamin A deficiency), refractive error, glaucoma and trauma and every year around 25000 Afghans loose vision in one of their eyes. Studies show that blindness is more common in females than in males.]]></description>

						 <title>Afghanistan Celebrates National Day for Making Motherhood Safe</title>

There is no current data available, but the mortality must have been reduced with the increasing coverage of health services for women at district level. The Afghan National Development Strategy has set a target of 75% reduction in the MMR by the end of 2020.]]></description>

Adequate amount of ARV drugs provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Kabul around one month ago. As per the plan it was agreed that the ART center should be based in the Ibn-Sina Infectious Diseases hospital in Kabul and 6 other same centers will be inaugurated soon in the regional and provincial hospitals of big provinces all over the country.]]></description>

						 <title>Dr Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie opens a 3 day Sub-National Immunization Days campaign for Polio Eradication in 15 provinces of Afghanistan</title>

						 <description><![CDATA[Dr. S.M. Amin Fatimie, Minister of Public Health of Afghanistan officially launched a three day Sub-National Immunization Days (NIDs) campaign. This round of SNIDs campaign will start on 12 April and continues for 3 days. MoPH with the technical and financial support from the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children Funds (UNICEF) and donor communities conducts this supplementary immunization to provide immunity against polio to almost 3 million under 5 years age children and to stop circulation of wild polio virus inside Afghanistan and importation of virus from neighboring countries. By achieving and sustaining these two targets, Afghanistan will soon obtain the status of a polio free country.]]></description>

This morning 53 nurses and 98 midwives received their graduation diplomas as Registered nurses and registered midwives. Development of these newly graduated nurses and midwives will improve health status of mothers and babies.  At the end of the ceremony two excellent graduates were awarded by the Ministry of Public Health. Nursing  school of Agha Khan and Agha Khan University have provided their generous support in the realization of this progress towards improvement of health system in Afghanistan.]]></description>

						 <title>Officially openning of final written exam of 174 doctors</title>

						 <description><![CDATA[Dr. S.M. Amin Fatimie officially opened final written exam of 174 doctors trained in 19 specialties in 17 Hospitals of Kabul and 7 Hospitals of the provinces. Upon the successful passing of the exam, these doctors will be deployed across the countries to serve people with their new capacities. It is mentionable that these doctors should pass a practical test in the training hospitals later to qualify as specialists. In the past two years around 400 specialist have been awarded specialist degrees and working in different hospitals. Dr. Fatimie in his address to the doctors said that 30 years of war and destruction had broken hearts and minds of Afghans and they needed kindness and humane behaviour and treat from doctors. Specialty was important and necessary; however, good behaviour of doctors would encourage patients to share their problems comfortably with doctors and would help in diagnosis and treatment.]]></description>

It was decided that a committee under the leadership of Ministry of Counter Narcotics for the solution of this problem. These actions will then be followed by the relevant ministry in order to have a sound solution to the problem of drug use in Old Russian Cultural Center as well in the community.]]></description>

Dr S. M. Amin Fatimie the Minister of Public Health of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan inaugurated the commencement of Strengthening Pharmaceutical System (SPS) project. In this regard a one-month training of trainers (ToT) course started in the presence of high ranking governmental authorities, leadership and partners of MoPH, representatives of international organizations, doctors and pharmacists of the country. The purpose of the course is to establish procurement system for drugs, ensure access to and availability of safe drugs, efficiency and access to inexpensive drugs and to ensure the existence of quality drugs.]]></description>
