Experiences Creating Ideas to Improve Hospital Services
Dr Suraya Dalil, Policy and Planning Deputy and MoPH Acting Minister visited a big number of department chiefs from governmental hospitals located in Kabul city today to use their experiences in improving hospital health services.

The participants were department chefs from Wazir Akbar Khan , Jamhoriat, Ibn Sina Emergency, IGICH(Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health), Rabia i Balkhi, Malalai Maternity, 102-bed Khair Khana, Ataturk, Esteqlaal, Mental Health, Sadri i Ibn Sina and Infectious Disease hospitals as well as Kabul Central Polyclinic.

Although some achievements made in PHC (Primary Health Care) in the last years, but challenges at the hospital levels, especially, in Kabul still remain. Acting Minister of Public Health said, she added that comparing with the present population rate, hospitals existing currently in urban cities can not satisfy the needs and requirements of the people. Therefore, it seriously requires paying special attention to qualify hospital health services for the needy Afghans.

The Acting Minister of Public Health touched on the outstanding role of private sector in presenting health services. Moreover, talking to the attendants regarding the Code for Private Sector affairs, Dr Dalil added, We have thought about long and short term plans to boost health services delivered through hospitals. These plans will, of course, help us address the shortcomings and poor qualities exist at the hospital levels. We do need your comments and helpful ideas to draw up the above plans.

The Acting Minister added that she had talked to hospital staff, patients and had first hand information on the hospitals situation, problems and way forward. The meeting allowed a fruitful discussion.

The current problems are enormous including shortage of basic materials and med technology, problems related to infrastructure and building, hygiene and sanitation, staff motivation and development.
